Nowhere Is Safe: Roots of Resilience in Appalachia

Last Summer the Maize Manor Campus led a climate justice mission journey to Western North Carolina. Along with people from other churches all across Ohio, volunteers helped clean up after the Hurricane Helene storm system, which sent 20 inches of rain and over 100mph winds through the Appalachian Mountains. It is unusual for storms to cause as much damage as Helene did high up in the mountains…but such storms are becoming more common and more severe. This May in worship, we are going to go on a journey to North Carolina, where we will discover Nowhere Is Safe from climate change, but, at the same time, the Roots of Resilience can be developed anywhere.
