Please and Thank You

One of the great spiritual trappings of our culture today is a sense of entitlement – we teach
people to feel entitled to wealth, food, traditions, and more. But the Bible teaches us to foster a
sense of gratitude…which is the opposite of entitlement. So, this November, while we all get
ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, we are going to spend some time naming things we are
thankful for. In doing so, we will let go of our cultural disposition of entitlement that says “I
deserve this or that,” and replace it with a disposition that reclaims the value of saying, “Please
and Thank You.”
