There are many things I would rather spend my money on than tithe – food, toys and travel come to mind, just to name a few. I am sure I am not alone in this desire. After all, we live in a consumer culture, where many people spend the vast majority of their money on things they want for themselves. Yet, the Bible teaches us to be good stewards with our money, and use it responsibly to build God’s Kingdom. This November, we are going to examine biblical teachings on stewardship; consider John Wesley’s classic sermon on how money can best be used for the Kingdom (hint: Wesley did NOT suggest you should give all of your money to the church); and, evaluate our own best – as well as worst – spending habits. This holiday season, join us as we get honest about Things I’d Rather Spend My Money on Than Tithe.
